Whence It Came and Whither It Is Drifting

This installation is a body of work that uses the playground as a subject to reflect on our subjective notions of value, boundaries, inclusiveness, and exclusivity.

I attempted to create an installation to reflect immigrant experiences in this piece. The piece enabled the audience to have a physical and emotional experience through engagement with the installation by fusing fragmented abstraction, bodily scale, and movements. A motor imitated dragging and lugging movements to create physical mark-making on the ground, leaving a visual trace of its labor. In this way, I was able to honor immigrants' resilience while also evoking the sensibility of their struggle to make a better life.
